Hyderabad: The Godavari River Management Board (GRMB) will convene a crucial meeting with irrigation officials from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on August 5 to discuss the modernization of the Peddavagu project. The initiative, prompted by a major breach on the project's left flank in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, is part of a time-bound programme aimed at upgrading the facility.
Given that the Peddavagu project serves approximately 2,600 acres in Telangana and 13,000 acres in Andhra Pradesh, both states are expected to share the costs of the modernization effort, which is projected to exceed Rs 150 crore. The meeting was rescheduled from last week due to ongoing legislative sessions in both states.
The GRMB has stepped in to mediate and resolve the issues preventing progress on the modernization programme. Cost-sharing will be a significant topic of discussion, as both states need to agree on how to equally distribute the financial responsibility for the project.
The outcome of this meeting is crucial for advancing the modernization of the Peddavagu project, which is vital for irrigation and agricultural productivity in the region.
